Ministries

St. John UCC is proud to have been an active part of our community for over 155 years. We are currently supporting the following community outreach projects:

Third Thursday Community Dinners

On the third Thursday of each month community members are invited to share a meal with us from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. These meals are free, and they offer an opportunity to get to know your neighbors and to make new friends – without having to cook or do the dishes!

Community Outreach Ministry Eastside

Community Outreach Ministry Eastside (COME) began in 1988 as an outgrowth of the food pantry at Cumberland First Baptist Church. Today ten area churches are united to sustain this local outreach ministry, reaching out to the financial needs within our community.

COME is designed to assist with utility bills, rent and mortgage payments, referrals to other agencies and of course, food. The ministry acts as a referral agency, working in tandem with area township trustees, to get clients headed in other directions where they might receive assistance that COME is unable to provide. Average total assistance is in excess of $40,000.00 annually.

St. John participates in the Community Outreach Mission Eastside (COME) by donating non-perishable food items, other household supplies such as detergents, toilet paper, etc. We also purchase Meijer gift cards which COME uses to purchase some of these items for families in need.

Eastridge teacher assistance program

Volunteers spend time each week at Eastridge Elementary School assisting teachers and working in the school library.

Lenten Mitten Tree

During the Lenten season a tree in the foyer sprouts limbs filled with mitten and scarves which are donated to a local school so that all children may have warms hands and heads during the cold Indiana winter.

Our Scouts Program

For over 50 years St. John UCC has sponsored Boy Scout Troop ? The young men meet in their special room and assist the church when extra hands are needed. We are very proud of “our” troop and the many young men who have earned their Eagle Scout designation. In recent years the church has also sponsored a Cub Scout Den by providing a meeting place for these young boys as they being their Scouting careers.

For further information on how you may become involved with scouting at St. John, please contact the church office (317) 894-7958.
